So Rohin (somehow he knows you guys, but *I* "met" him over in the comments section of the American Sepia Mutiny) is posting on AIM Sunny's new blog Pickled Politics, and his first entry is a freaking in-depth analysis of Apu and what he means. Fave quote:
Apu: Today, I am no longer an Indian living in America. I am an Indian-American.
Lisa: You know, in a way, all Americans are immigrants. Except, of course Native Americans.
Homer: Yeah, Native Americans like us.
Lisa: No, I mean American Indians.
Apu: Like me.

Tablas/speakers, it's an obvious idea thats been at the back of my mind for ages, looks like the Nasha crew just clicked onto it.
I got blueprints from 2 years back with detailed plans and logistics on how to build tabla based speakers, unfortunately I forgot to do the Improv hand gesture, TM, which Dave taught me. Although I have a secret weapon of science and technology called Divya and an unreliable shell supplier called Renu ; ) In the name of Noise i will build this beast!

Ices Banned for Looking Like Allah
Swirl on cone lid upsets Muslims
Ice creams are being withdrawn from Burger King because a design on the lid looks like the word Allah.
The fast food chain has had dozens of complaints about the coloured symbol on its range of BK Cones.
The image is meant to be a spinning swirl of ice cream. But Muslims are furious that from one angle, it looks similar to the word for God in Arabic script. Customer Rashad Akhtar, 27, branded the design "sacreligious."
The business development manager of High Wycombe, Bucks, said: "One of the staff asked me if I was a Muslim and showed me the cone -- I was humiliated. How can you say it's a spinning swirl? You are offending Muslims."
Burger King, whose slogan is Have It Your Way, yesterday told managers who take thousands of the cones off sale. A spokesman for the company, which has 11,220 outlets worldwide, said: "As a result of feedback our supplier is amending the design."
Last night Muslim Council spokesman Inayat Bunglawala prasied the restaurant chain.
He said: "We commend the sensitive and prompt action to prevent any hurt
being caused to the religious sensibilities of others."

I only heard about this fairly recently and it looks really interesting. Its a new programme called The Suffrage and the Singh on BBC1 London Inside Out on Monday 12th September at 7.30pm. It investigates the story of Sophia Dalip's(Duleep) Singh's (she was God-daughter to Queen Victoria and daughter of Maharaja Dalip Singh(or Duleep) and the last emperor of the Sikhs and owner of the famous Kohinoor diamond)involvement in the suffragette movement. Yes that's right - there was an Indian suffragette. Personally Ive always been really interested in Maharaja Dalip Singh and have made countless projects and pieces of art and read so many books based on his life so I'm really looking foward to seeing this! Furthermore, as a modern day young indian woman this whole movement seems symbolic to grasp why we live in the conditons we do today and I think its fantastic the BBC have commisioned it-its also presented by Gurinda Chadha so you've got to see it!
Remember a while back I posted Kids with Cameras, Zana Briski’s amazing photography project set in Calcutta, finally her moving documentary is now playing at the ICA, make sure you check it out – trailer - Born Into Brothels.
